Cookery- Nigerian Meat Pie


I'm really excited to post this as most of you may know I am the biggest food enthusiastic ever!
African Sweetheart have teamed up with amazingly talented people at 9jafoodie.com to bring you this post of step by step instruction to make the perfect party meat pie.
It is one recipe every lady should really know how to pull out of her sleeve. I'm salivating just thinking abut perfecting mine!

Meat pie is one of the things I look forward to eating when I go home, be it at tantalizers, Mr Bigs, Sweet Sensations or TFC the flavor profile is very similar. Crumbly exterior with meaty filling. The Nigerian Meat pie is comparable to Latin American Empanadas.

Making Nigerian Meat pie

Ingredients For the Filling
 1.5 cups ground beef
1.5 cups cooked potatoes
1/2 green pees
1/2 teaspoon curry

1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

1/4 cup red onion (chopped)
1 Tablespoon canola oil
1 cube maggi
Salt to taste
Direction
Place a large saucepan on medium heat; add in the oil and onion. fry until translucent
Add in the ground beef, salt, pepper and maggi. Cover for 10mins turning on occasion
Add in the peas and the potatoes. Cover for another 6mins. Add in the curry. Combine
Remove from heat and set in the fridge to cool
For the Dough

41/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 Table Spoon Baking powder
A pinch of salt
1 pack of Butter or Margarine – Ideal for baking (400 G)
1-cup water
2 eggs (for finishing)

Direction

In a large bowl combine the flour, backing power and salt. Mix thoroughly.


Add in the margarine or butter into the dry ingredients, with you hands work the ingredients until margarine or butter is well incorporated (it should look as pictured below)


A little at a time, add in the water into the dough. Knead the dough until water is well Incorporated.  as pictured below.


Add some flour to a smooth surface, using a rolling pin, flatten the dough. using a circular cookie cutter or a round bowl, cut the dough into big circles. As pictured below.


 The Process
Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees
Place about 1 teaspoon or more of filling into center of the circle; fold dough over filling to enclose, forming a half-moon shape.
Press edges together to seal, and crimp edges decoratively using the back of a fork.

Transfer to a parchment or foil paper-lined baking sheet
Repeat with remaining dough and filling
Whisk together the eggs and brush the egg wash over the formed pies
Bake until edges are lightly golden, 15 to 20 minutes


Serve meat pie with a side of Chilled Fanta. Enjoy!!!
