The Week's Sermon: Are You A 'Good' Christian?

Many of us claiming to be good Christians are yet to become one. Jesus said, "bear fruits unto repentance". He did not ask us to show the world that we are His by speaking in endless tongues and praying all through the night. He said we shall be known by our fruits. What are those fruits of the spirit- love, goodness, faith, kindness, peace, self-control.

When you pray and roll on the floor during worship only to refuse helping your brother or sister who asks for help and you know you can render that help, you are yet to become a Christian. When all you do is pack money to Daddy and Mummy but you choose to ignore that junior pastor whose family cannot feed; when you ignore that helpless widow who cannot send her children to school; when you ignore that house help living with you but have more than enough for "Daddy" just for recognition and vain glory, you are of all men most miserable and what you are practicing is the religion of the Pharisees who are just painted sepulchers.

Dear pastor, how many times have you prayed for people who are hungry and helpless and send them away with a "it is well, keep trusting God" when you know that you can pay off their bill? God is watching and no deceitful heart, mouth, and eyes shall see Him.

You keep acquiring from people even the poor widows in your congregation but you turn your back on them when the going gets tough; God is watching you! You keep telling your junior pastors that you are living in wealth now because you have carried your cross and paid the price and so they have to carry theirs; you are a liar, a wicked soul, and an agent of darkness.

When people come around you, they must leave better than they were when they met you. I know most people will still fight you with what you have blessed the with; that's the human nature without the spirit of God. Your junior pastor may leave and start his own ministry with some of your members; don't get angry after all you did that to your own GO when you left with his choir master and chief elder. Stop criticizing him from the pulpit because you have no moral justification for that. What goes around comes around and this is why I try to be original in whatever I do. Just be at peace and wish him well.

As we preach love, let us live love and run away from anyone who sows that seed of bitterness in us. Stay away from those people who tell you what others said about you; they are killing you. The eye-service folks in your ministry keep feeding you with negative stories about the other pastor; Are we not working towards the same goal?

Paul planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. Our main problem should be with the devil and depopulating hell fire; it should be about soul winning and never about how big my auditorium is, how many rich people do I have or how many television stations am I on. I don't care what relationship you have with the person; severe that relationship if it does not build you up. Love is the greatest gift of all. Amen.
